Default Heroes’ Ascent Frustration

I am getting very frustrated with Heroes’ Ascent right now! I was almost thinking of leaving Guild Wars because there is no chance for me anymore. As I new player to Guild Wars I obviously have a low rank (Rank 3). As everyone here knows Hero's Ascent is all about the rank. So I join the lesser groups in hope that one of them will get me some fame. Unfortunately this never happens my group RARLY ever wins. I would say I win 1 in every 10 rounds, which is about 1 fame every 2 hours if I am lucky. Today I played for 8 hours and got 0 fame. At this rate I will never get past rank 3. I know most people will say go join a guild but pvp guilds require high rank. I seem to be in a never-ending circle! I can't get into a guild because I am not a high rank. I try and join a group to get rank but those also require high rank. I just can't imagine what Guild Wars will be like years from now... New players will be totally screwed! Right now I am just thinking of going to Ebay and buying a high ranked account because I will never get past rank 3.

You know you could always make a group instead of joining one.

And besides, even if you did ebay for an account with a high rank, you'll still suck. Just because you have rank doesn't always mean you're good. It only means you know the maps.

If rank doesn't mean your good than why do all the groups and guilds require high rank?

I wanted to try HA for my first time (Im PvE'er and I already get knowledge in RA/TA and I want to do something more) before seeing this thread. If ppl dont want you in the group, its because they want pro..... erm..... "experienced players". Even a newb in HA has his chance to be more experienced. Why not take them too. Everyone was a newb when you started to play GW. You were a newb for the first time you're doing HoH. Let, at least, one your team to make him/her more experienced instead to make more beggers at HA.

Unfortunately people are fiercely competative in HA, they want to win. They need people they know are familiar with the maps, and the general strageties involved with HA. Unfortunately, this is a "the higher rank get higher, and the lower rank stays low" situation...

I don't forsee a change any time soon, and I don't hold it against the people that frequent the place. But if you really wanted to gain rank, you NEED to join a fiercely PvP guild. Going with a guild group is better than any pickup group 9/10 times. That's how you get fame, not with pickup groups.

This arguement is stupid. And done to death.

"What about all the newbies will no rank? They can't get into high ranked groups!"

What about the newbies with low rank? There'll be tons of them. There ARE tons of them. Join them. Get rank. You all say that we all used to be newbies, which is true, but we didn't look for high ranked groups to join. We made our own rank with others who had no rank.

Learn to play.

No, people didn't use to look for high ranked group because everyone started at the same level so everyone has a chance to win, and since there were not as much rank difference people can't use it to discriminate others.

Its kinda hard to "learn to play" when you can't even get into a decent group that get past first map.

If video killed the radio star, fame killed PvP. Somebody can get fame just by hitching a ride with some expert guild, using a build that isn't in any way original, and I'm supposed to automatically believe that these people are better than a player who knows the game's ins and outs, with low fame, surrounded by players who aren't good enough to help him acquire said fame? Fame is for the little kids to have something to dream about and brag over. I couldn't care less about that schoolyard crap. It's just a number to me, revered by tons of players who couldn't tell you one thing about Guild Wars numerics (damage computation, etc.).

I do believe that knowledge of the PvP maps and gametypes are important to know, however, but again I don't think fame is necessarily the deciding factor of having that knowledge or not. The bottom line is, if you aren't good enough at picking skills that compliment your teammates' or even picking out situations when using said skills would be worthwhile, then you shouldn't be PvP'ing at all, or at the very least, not spamming your /rank emotes like you're king of the world. Still, PvP does need some kind of measuring stick and winning and losing is the only way apparently of how good an individual is, in a team game. At least, the majority seem to think so.

You know, I used to feel the same way as the OP. After 700+ hours of PvE with random arenas thrown in for about 40k faction, I decided to give it a shot yesterday.

I now am the proud owner of 18 fame and have been to the Hall of Heroes only to have by butt handed to me by Battery Powered Best Friend. I also am earning faction many times faster than I was in random arena.

Are there ranked groups? Yes. Are there also unranked groups? Yes again. Would any top PVP guild in its right mind take a random new player into the guild, or even in their group? Nope, and neither would you if you had the option. The unranked people complaining about rank are simply people who would do the exact same thing if they had rank 9+.

If you really want to play there, take a look at some of the cookie cutter builds that leave all the time with PUGs. For all the flak IWAY catches, it's a great way to get some experience. Many of the roles in a balanced build should already be familiar if you have played through PVE. The galdiator's arena section of the forum can be helpful here, or you could simply look at what people are asking for and find out what that is. Whether you do that by directly asking in game (which will probably get you flamed by teh uber l33t players), figuring it out yourself, or looking it up online is up to you.

The fact is that there are plenty of oppurtunities for new players in HA which will help you leanr how to play in there, which sadly, you and I just don't quite get yet. I'd be more than happy to form an unranked group with you anytime, even if we lose, it's still more fun than sitting around doing nothing.

Leaving cause of rank, what's with the sudden upburst to gain rank. If rank wasn't your main problem, would you still be playing?

video killed the radio star <-- love that song.

It's true. And he didn't even say the word "IWAY." /clap

Did it ever occur to you that no one was born rank 9? We all had to slog through just as much fame as you.

I can say from experience that almost every player who starts to play in HA goes through the same sh#t.

People start from scratch and have problems in the first map. But eventually builds and tactics become familiar and passing the first map under 30s isn't a problem anymore.

You just have to keep in mind that while PvP is actually very fun, it is also very demanding and you seriously have to think about strategy and the builds.

Basic tips to forming a pug group is to first decide the teams build. Then start asking around for players. Not just blind joining and inviting anybody. After you have gathered your group or joined in one, take some time to talk about tactics. Who will keep monks shut or which one interrupts zainshen eles wards etc...

Another thing is that when you play a lot in HA, you become familiar with the other players and maybe get some friends. It is way much easier and nicer to get together with people you already know. Team work is important.

I started playing PvP in last October without a guild and even without any friends because we all had strong PvE backround. It took some time to get to rank 6 because many enemy groups we faced were IWAY groups and they smashed us in the start, but eventually I've learned all the builds that run in HA and the best ways to counter them so getting to rank 9 was just matter of time.

I started from scratch and got up there and I'm positive you can do the same. If you play with your brain one day you'll be holding Halls. It is just a matter of team work.

WTB 996 fame for 1K each, seriously I'd rather farm then pay for a guild so I could tag along in HA than make groups / find them...
2hr's of spamming heal monk is a wasted effort(coulda been farming)

All I want is a wolf, you can keep your tigers n such, I just want a wolf.

oh and that "join iway" doesnt work so well, I tried for 2hrs aswell in HA last week, not a single invite or pm.

Most people went through the same thing. I started tombing when most people started getting their R9. I joined the unranked pugs. I played, lost, but had fun because I was learning. I admit to some that it's a kick in the teeth, but those that don't complain about the situation and just play whatever HA they can each night will get ranked faster.

To those who have trouble finding competent unranked players? Form your own groups. Take a tried and true build (not necessarily IWAY). Know what each character does, and explain it slowly and surely to each person. Invite them on vent. Call the strats. Heck, they don't even have to be good strats-you'll learn quickly anyway. A plus side of organising your own groups is that you also get more friends.
It's a little more work, but if you work for your fame, it's going to come quicker.

I get your point, and I have met decently ranked players who seem to bring the wrong skills, or are pretty bad at their jobs. However, I think you underestimate the value of experience. It is one thing to know what a skill does, to know when to use it, and to know its ins and outs-and another thing to keep all of that in mind when you're actually playing.

And besides, I think there's a tombs frustration thread in the HA forum.

all those who have higher rank than you had the same experience as well. just be patient. form your groups and try to maintain connections. who knows, one day, you and your team mates (or future guildmates) will dominate the HA.

when most of us were low ranked, we didnt aspire to belong to rank 9 groups. we just consistently played together and all turned out well for us.

goodluck.

exept that all you played was iway so maybe your rank means nothing. anyway, don't play iway to get a cool emote and join ranked group, because most of the times you will suck and will be kicked. groups usually don't play with known iwayers, depsite their rank.

I decided. Tonight, when I will finish to work, I'll try my first shot at HA with my ranger. I just hope to get one group. I already know how it works (By pressing "B" in a outpost and see).
